Do you know the difference between VoLTE and LTE? VoLTE is a high volume data transferring process that supports video call, audio call, text message and data surfing together. LTE refers to voice calling over a 4G network with some systematic limitations. Both the terms used widely in this era of telecommunication although there exists a lot of difference in the quality, processing and volume of data.
Nowadays, users of Internet are increasing day by day. As Internet is growing more, so are its users increasing. Telecom operators collaborate to invent new protocols to provide more advanced data processing and high definition video calling simultaneously. Most of the users get confused about the two terms, namely, VoLTE and LTE. This article explains the specifications which are different from each other. So, you should know the difference between VoLTE and LTE.
What Do You Mean By VoLTE?
The full form of VoLTE is ‘Voice Over Long Term Evolution‘ which is a high definition video calling and data surfing process. It uses 4G networks to make high definition video calling and transfers more data at higher speed. During LTE network, users can’t enjoy simultaneous voice calling and data surfing. This was a major drawback of the LTE network. But Voice Over Long Term Evolution solved this disadvantage that allows to make video calling, data surfing and text messaging at the same time.
What Do You Mean By LTE?
The full form of LTE is ‘Long Term Evolution’ which was used before the invention of VoLTE. Long Term Evolution(LTE) network uses 4G communication network to place and make voice calls at higher speed than the traditional cellular networks of 2G or 3G. This network is better for voice-based calling but the major drawback of this is that it is not compatible with simultaneous voice calling and data surfing. In other words, on using the LTE network, you can’t make call and use data at the same time. However, it is better than 3G network.
Now, let’s explain the difference between VoLTE and LTE:
VoLTE | LTE |
---|---|
VoLTE stands for Voice Over Long Term Evolution. | LTE stands for Long Term Evolution. |
It supports voice call and Data service simultaneously. | It supports or may not support voice call and Data service together. |
It does not need to use external software to make video calls. The mobile device can make video calls. | It can’t make video calls without external softwares like WhatsApp, Skype, Messenger. |
It targets both the video calling and data surfing without affecting each other. | It targets only the the data rates on the 4G bandwidth. |
It connects to the users within a second if both the end users are in the same VoLTE networks. | It takes about 7 seconds to connect the user on a 3G network. |
So, VoLTE and LTE both are using advanced networking structure but the former is more advanced, as it uses 4G network to transfer data at higher speed along with video calling while the latter supports only video calling or data surfing. LTE does not support simultaneous calling and data service. This relates to network architecture wherein lies the difference between VoLTE and LTE.
